The away fans are now housed in the North West corner of the ground, on level seven. If you suffer from vertigo, don't go! Reports suggest that the stewarding is quite strict – so behave yourselves!!

GETTING TO THE GROUN

TRAVELLING BY CAR :

From the M25 join the M1 (northbound). At junction 32 take the left hand lane to join the M18 (the North and Doncaster). At junction 2 branch left and at the roundabout take the first exit
to join the A1(M) signposted to The North. In eight miles at the end of the motorway join the A1 and then in a further 31 miles rejoin the A1(M). At junction 49 (A1/A618) Dishforth Interchange go forward on the A1 and then in a further 24 miles at the junction with the B6275 go
forward to join the A1(M). At the end of the motorway go forward on the A1 and in four miles
branch left to join the A184 (Newcastle, Gateshead). After one mile take the right hand lane to join the A189 then cross Redheugh Bridge. Keep forward (signposted City Centre) and at the
traffic lights go straight ahead (City-North). At the next traffic lights proceed forward again (City-North, Ashington). At the T-junction turn left, then at the next traffic lights turn right. At the roundabout take the first exit and Newcastle FC is on the right after one mile.
Alternatively Follow A1, A68 then A6127 to cross the Tyne. At the next roundabout, take the first exit into Moseley Street. Turn left into Neville Street, then right at the end for Clayton Street and then Newgate Street. Then turn left for Leazes Park Road.
By Road from West:
Take the A69 towards the City Centre. Turn left into Clayton Street for
Newgate Street, then left again for Leazes Park Road.
By Road from North:
Take the A1, then follow signs for Hexham until you get to Percy Street
then turn right into Leazes Park Road.

PARKING :

There is street parking available nearby, or it might be more sensible / convenient to try the city centre multi-stories which are well signposted. There is apparently parking for away fans at
the Blood Transfusion Centre in Barrack Road.

Building work at Gallowgate has also meant that other public car parks have been closed, further limiting the choice. Like most British cities, on-street parking is available round the edge of the centre, but the threat of car crime and changing parking rules is an ever-present one.

Parking Suggestions:

Near the Telewest Arena.
Off the Westgate Road - top end.
Past the Royal Victoria Infirmary beside the University/Exhibition Park.
At the Railway Station - limited space and expensive.
Multi-storey car parks on Dean Street and near Haymarket bus station.

There are car parks at the ground - however they are strictly for permit holders and there's no pay on the day public access to them.

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN :

There are no train tickets left via Chris & Gildo – they were all snapped up in the space of 15 minutes after going on sale. The details, in case anyone else wants to travel on the same train (apparently there are some tickets at available now at £31 and £75), are as follows:

departs Kings Cross: 09:30am
arrives Newcastle: 12:42pm

depart Newcastle: 5:29pm
arrives Kings Cross: 8.35pm

To get to the ground, you may either take the metro direct to the ground (one stop- St.James), or walk as follows (half mile – 15 mins):
Route via the city centre: Come out of the station, across the two zebra crossings and head right onto Grainger Street. Follow this road up to the second set of traffic lights (at Pizza Hut). This will out you at the top of the Bigg Market - Drinker's Paradise! You should have met a throng of black and white shirts by now, but failing that, bear left onto Newgate Street and follow the road all the way around to the roundabout with Gallowgate. Following this road all the way round will lead you straight to St James Park and the away fans' section'.

If you're feeling lazy, you can get buses 36, 36B, 71, 87 or 88 from Berwick Street (across the road from station), up to the ground. The fare should be about 50p.

Direct route - Come out of the station and cross the street in front of you, and up the alley to the left of the bakers. This take you past a pub called The Forth and bring you out at Clayton Street. Cross straight over and continue up the final section of the alley. You are now on Westgate Road.

To your right is a paper shop and immediately past it is a paved walkway which stretches up the hill - at the top of this you will be able to see the ground to your right. Either continue towards the ground or deviate right, which is Stowell Street, home of the local Chinese community and numerous fine eating establishments.

Away supporters are currently housed in the North West corner, following
the Direct route described above brings you to the South West side of the ground (or South East if via City Centre).

Continue to walk along the road that winds along to the ground and
then walk underneath the new offices/stand with the ground on your
right. The away turnstiles are past the main entrance at the top of the
incline.

Away buses / coaches tend to park immediately to the North of this point.

Club coaches depart Holmesdale Road at 6:15am. Gold members 21.75, Season Members 26.10, Guests 29.00

BY PLANE
There are flights to Newcastle, although the cheaper ones mean coming back the next day. Most with Go via Stanstead – prices vary depending on when you look at the web site from 30.00 upwards apparently. If coming from the airport, alight at Haymarket or Monument Stations and follow the crowds.

EATING AND DRINKING :

The ground is one of the few in the country that is literally right in the centre of town. You are no more than 10 minutes walk from the main shopping areas of Newcastle. There are plenty of bars to choose from in the city centre.

St. James Park is located right in the city centre, with all shops, etc. within half a mile. There is a large footie-friendly pub in Barrack Road (near the away parking), five minutes from the ground – The Leazes Inn 0191 221 1588. Large family orientated pub, big screen TV, 2 pool tables, one snooker table, darts, table football, and full menu (served 12-5 weekends). Children’s menu / outdoor play area, large car park.

The Strawberry, Rosie’s bar and The Newcastle Arms are all home pubs.

FOOD:
Charlies and Wok this Way on Gallowgate offer eat as much as you can buffets for about 4:50 . Gourmet Grub on Leazes crescent do good sandwiches and salads. St Andrew’s Street near Rosie’s Bar is the Butter Fingers takeaway with pies, quiche and sandwiches. Newgate Street and the Bigg Market have the usual Wimpys and MacDonalds.

Inside the ground the mince pie seems the best bet. Cheese and onion pasty not bad apparently. Coffee and Hot chocolate recommended. Alcohol is also served within the ground

Matchday programme - available from local newsagents 24 hours before kickoff, from street vendors Price held at £2 for 2001-02 season.

For those making a night of it:

The best place for a night out is the Quayside – there are loads of bars down there. You should go over the swing bridge (pedestrian bridge) to Buffalo Bills, on the Gateshead side. You can eat there and it is open until 12:30am (no charge). Great place to have some fun. Opposite Buffalo Bills is a good Italian known as La Riveria.

There are also loads of good hotels along the quayside if you haven’t already booked.

If you want to go bar hopping then go over the swing bridge to the Newcastle side and all along the river are bars – be prepared to queue though.
