The away end is uncovered, so be prepared to get wet!
The Railway End holds up to 1,500 fans, and the terracing has unfortunately recently had seats bolted onto it. (I guess it will never be the same as last season’s game anyway!) An additional number of seats are allocated in the Vernon Building Society Stand which is under cover. There are a number of supporting pillars in this stand which may impede your view. If this happens to you, then the stewards do allow you to stand at the back of the stand to get a better view. This stand is shared with home supporters and for some strange reason away fans in the seated area have to enter the ground by the side of the home end and then walk through the home seats to get to the away ones.

TRAIN TRAVEL

Major engineering works, plus trains not stopping at Stockport mean there is no train back to London on the Sunday night. However if you are arriving by train from elsewhere. Stockport railway station is in walking distance of the ground - about half a mile away. to walk it, come down the steps from the platforms and turn left up the tunnel (away from the booking office and main exit). Walk up the cobbled Station Road , cross the main road, and turn left. At the roundabout follow signs for, 'Cheadle A5464' into Mercian Way. The floodlights are visible from here- the ground is down the sidestreets to the left. This route passes right by Castle
Street, the main shopping area.

By bus
The number 192 runs from Piccadilly Gardens in Manchester City Centre to Greek Street. From there walk up to roundabout and follow sign to Cheadle A5464 into Mercian Way.

HOW TO GET THERE AND WHERE TO PARK
From the South: M6 to junction 19. At roundabout turn right taking the A556 towards Manchester/Altrincham. Then join the M56 towards Manchester Airport. After a few miles leave the M56 and join the M60 towards Stockport. Leave the motorway at Junction 1 and take the A560 towards Cheadle. Go over the first roundabout and you will pick up signs for the ground. After about half a mile turn right at the traffic lights (where there is a pub on the corner) into Edgeley Road. After a further mile you will see the ground on your right.

Route 2: M1 to Junction 29. Follow signs for Chesterfield (A617) or Chatsworth. At the first roundabout in town continue straight across, past the retail park on your left, following signs for 'Town Centre'. At the second roundabout bear left in front of the Job Centre ( following signs for Chatsworth, A619). Go straight across at the third roundabout (still Chatsworth). Follow this road straight (A619) for about five miles out of town (you are now in the Peak District). A couple of miles out of town you go past 'The Highwayman' pub and restaurant (Brewer's Fayre), which is highly recommended for a pint and food!. Bear left at the next roundabout (marked A623, Baslow) and pass through the first part of Baslow village. Then turn
right at the next roundabout, following the twisty A623 through beautiful green fields and several villages. The opportunities for country pub stops here (and just off the main road) are endless. After about 30-40 minutes you will come to the A6 roundabout. Follow signs for Chapel-en-le-Frith (A6), and eventually Stockport /Manchester (A6) all the way into Stockport. Directions for the ground should be signposted from here, but as you head into town keep an eye out for the Nelson pub and town hall (a big white building) on the right hand side. Turn left here (signposted Cheadle A5465, Stockport County FC) into Greek Street. Take the 2nd exit at the roundabout (signposted Cheadle A5465) onto Mercian Way dual carriageway. From here take the 2nd left into Caroline Street and to the ground.

North, South and West: Exit the M63 at junction 11 and then join A560 towards Stockport. After half a mile, turn right into Edgeley Road. In one mile turn right into Caroline Street for the ground.

East: Take the A6 or A560 into Stockport town centre, then turn left into Greek Street. At roundabout take second exit into Castle Street then left into Carolne Street for the ground.

From North (M62 from Leeds) When M60 eastern section open – exit M62 at junction 18 and head south on M60 to junction 1 then follow signs to stockport county. Other than that continue Westbound on the M60 round west of Manchester to Junction 1

Parking: There are council car parks off Mercian Way for 50p. Otherwise it's street parking. This is limited around the ground, but try to the north of Edgely Road.

WHERE TO DRINK?

There is a small Labour Club right by the away end entrance that allows visitors in. Otherwise there are a number of pubs along a shopping area, across the main road from the away end. If you chose to drink in Stockport town centre, it is worth looking out for a Robinsons pub, as the beer is excellent and actually brewed in Stockport itself.

The big Irish pub & John Jo Greens (if that’s not the big irish pub!) are not recommended, but most of the others are alright. The Armoury on the roundabout at the top end of the precinct there is usually friendly chat with away supporters as well as the excellent Robinsons Bitter.

Other pubs along 'Edgeley precinct' the local shopping area near the
ground, include:

'Sir Robert Peel', 83, Castle Street (Greenalls) Cosy lounge and
games room. Pool, darts, garden. Families welcome. Recommended away fans will get a warm welcome - lots of Palace in there last 2 years! Open all day - Food served 11.30 – 2. Normally lots of palace fans in there!

Also (which I think includes the one we went in after the game last year! Can’t remember tho!)

'The Royal Oak' 124, Castle Street (Scottish and Newcastle) -
Traditional local, darts, TV Open all day Very friendly, away supporters are welcomed and there's always a bit of good natured banter flying about.

'Prince Albert', 107, Castle Street (Wilsons) Traditional, pleasant.
Families, darts, TV. Open all day. Bar snacks available

'The Greyhound' 27, Bowden Street (Boddingtons) Small local, lively
atmosphere.

The Grapes Hotel - 1 Castle Street

The Crown Inn - 154 Heaton Lane (under viaduct on exit from Junction 1 of M60, 5 minute walk from ground)

Please note that alcohol is not available in the away end.

FOOD

There are several takeaways and restaurants on Edgeley precinct, the
Edgeley kebab house is recommended. The Fish & Chip shop furthest away from the ground is also recommended - restaurant & takeaway (not sure what it is called though!!) It may be the Friary - which is recommended. There is also the Castle Pizza House. Sivoris Cafe - which serves full breakfast for 2.30, 2 bakeries, a balti house and a chinese takeaway. The town centre is only 10 minutes walk, for your McDonalds etc.

There are a good range of pies inside the ground plus jacket potatoes!
Hot dogs & burger not recommended as much.
Hot chocolate preferable to tea apparently!
