Plymouth v Palace - Sat 17th Dec 2005 3pm Plymouth v Palace Saturday 17th December 2005 3pm
Ground Name: Home Park Capacity: 20,922 Address: Plymouth, PL2 3DQ Main Telephone No: 01752-562-561 Fax No: 01752-606-167 Ticket Office: 0871-222-1288
Away fans are housed in the Barn Park End, which is now all seated and covered. As you would expect from a new stand the facilities and views of the playing action are both good. The normal allocation for this end is 1,300 seats, although this can be increased to 2,022, if demand requires it. Stewarding in the away end is reported to be over zealous. So make sure you are on your best behaviour. Also be aware that smoking is not permitted in the seated area, only on the concourse behind the stand, which can get quite crowded.
Disabled supporters 8 away spaces for away wheelchair supporters. Shared between home & away supporters – elevated area behind the Devonport End. 6 spaces for visually impaired – in main stand with commentary via local hospital radio.
How to get there Take the M5 to the South West and at the end of the motorway continue onto the A38 Devon Expressway. (The ground is well signposted from the outskirts of Plymouth on the A38). On entering Plymouth, turn left onto the A386 (towards Plymouth, signposted Home Park, City Centre, Ferry Port & Tavistock). When this road splits into two, keep on the left hand side (sign posted Plymouth) and after about a mile you will see the ground on your left. The ground is well signposted 'Plymouth Argyle Home Park' on the way into Plymouth.
From Cornwall Head towards Plymouth on the A38 & across the Tamar Bridge at Saltash. Stay on until the junction with A386 – take the 5th exit on the roundabout
Parking
There is quite a large car park at the ground, which is free. It is operated on a 'first in before the game, first out after the game basis'. If you are last in, then on average it takes around half an hour to clear. The car park is normally full by 2.30pm on matchdays. There is some street parking if you drive past the ground, heading away from the city centre.
Trains Plymouth railway station is about one and a half miles away, so either grab a cab (£3) or embark on the 25 minute walk. As you come out of the station turn right and down the hill and under the railway bridge. Just keep walking straight along this road and you will soon see the floodlights of the ground in the distance.
Drink The Cherry Tree, is a good 15-20 minute walk away from the ground: from the car park at the home end turn right and walk up the hill along the main road. At the large set of traffic lights at the top of the hill turn left and you can see the pub about 50 yards down on the right.
if you are walking to the ground from the railway station the Pennycomequick is recommended - they apparently have home made pasties.
The Britannia is the closest pub to the ground and is a Wetherspoons outlet. However this pub is opposite the Embassy Club which is best avoided by away fans'.
Otherwise alcohol is available within the ground.
Food The delicious 'Football's Famous Chicken Balti Pie' (£2.20) is available inside the ground.
If you are making a weekend of it - go into the centre of Plymouth, make sure you walk down the front to the 'Hoe' (where Drake was playing bowls when he heard about the arrival of the Spanish Armada). The views of Plymouth Sound from here are superb.
